Chiropractic is not a replacement for painkilling drugs (or a quick fix relief).
It is a natural way to stimulate your body to heal itself and this may take time.

Chiropractic is not dangerous. Your chiropractor has trained for over 5 years to use the safest and gentlest techniques available.

Chiropractic is not unconventional. It is scientific and now a mainstream part of healthcare around the world. Thousands of people use chiropractors every day as a part of a good health regime.
We offer a FREE – no obligation – assessment! We will ask you specific questions about your problems, check your posture and carry out a few tests in order to find out whether we can be of help to you. We will then give you an idea of what your problem is and approximately how long it will take to help relieve your symptoms. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.
We pride ourselves in using safe and effective treatment methods. Chiropractic treatment is multi-faceted, its aim is to restore proper function and balance, thus enabling the body to heal itself and help preventing further damage.
The Chiropractor locates and corrects joint Dysfunction, relaxes tight muscles and gives advice on home exercises and ergonomics.
There are many varied techniques in Chiropractic. The intent is the same however the means may vary. This diversity caters for the fact that we are all individuals and that we should approach our health care in general as individuals. With this in mind a singular Chiropractic Technique may result in a different response in two different individuals who may otherwise present in a similar way.
Here is a summary of some of the main Techniques practiced by the chiropractors at the Health on Hand Clinics. They can be practices on a stand-alone basis or in combination.
Diversified Technique: Diversified is a versatile Chiropractic Technique for restoring proper movement to the spinal joints and are forming the basis of the chiropractic care.
Graston Technique: The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilises specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. Thomas Jeppesen is a trained instructor in this technique.
Kinesio-Taping: The Kinesio Taping Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to limit inflammation, support and to help prevent over-contraction.
Rock Tape: Can be used as Kinesio-tape but have also a unique Power-Taping method to tape movement patterns, thus enabling better performance.
Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT): This is a gentle technique for restoring pelvic and cranial balance and function.
Activator: Detecting and correcting dysfunctions using a small instrument which delivers a light and measured force in order to correct joint misalignments.
Nimmo Technique: Also called trigger Point therapy of Ischemic Compression. Involves applying a simple pressure to tender areas in order to release muscles from localised tension or spasm.
Soft Tissue Work: We use a range of techniques depending on the patients needs: Neuro-Muscular Re-education, Myofascial Release to mention a couple
Rehabilitation: During and following your course of treatments, various exercises will be prescribed in order to prevent recurrences and to help your body gain better balance, flexibility and strength.
Any new experience, especially when it comes to your health, can be unnerving. We understand this may also apply to patients who are new to chiropractic and we will make every effort to make your first experience very comfortable. The Chiropractor will answer any questions you may have about chiropractic or our approach to non-invasive medical care and they will address any concerns you may have.
At your arrival at the clinic, one of our assistants will welcome you and ask you to complete a form and relax for a few minutes, maybe have a Tea or Coffee with a biscuit? Please allow 45min to 1 hour for your first visit.
You will then have a thorough case history taken which will not just be about your presenting complaint, but also about your general past and present health history. If chiropractic appears not to be suitable for you, you will be referred to your GP or the appropriate specialist. Your details are confidential and no one else will be able to see your notes without your permission.
A detailed examination of the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles and skeleton) will be carried out in order to find the cause of your symptoms and make a diagnosis.
If we do not need x-rays, scans or further tests done, a treatment will be offered. Your Chiropractor will tell you what is causing your condition, often using visual aids to help you understand and visualise how your body is working. You will be advised as to how many treatments you will need and what the likely costs are likely to be.
This is your Treatment Plan; it will have been tailored to your needs.
At the treatment visits we continue the care according to the Treatment Plan explained. We will prescribe exercises and ergonomic advice in order to help prevent possible future recurrences of the problems. These subsequent visits will last between 10 and 20 minutes.
We offer a treatment plan split into 3 phases, you will decide how far you will take your care:
Pain Relief: Treatment will aim at reducing inflammation, joint stiffness, muscle spasm and nerve irritation all to help relieve your pain. Initial treatments are often recommended 1-2 times a week until your start felling better.
Ice packs may be suggested to help reduce inflammation and stretching exercises recommended to help mobility.
Keeping active while avoiding heavy exercise usually speeds up your recovery process. Some discomfort may be experienced initially after treatments as stiff joints and muscles start moving again this is often like the muscle ache the day after doing too much exercise.
Rehabilitation Care: When your pain is mostly relieved our next aim is to restore strength and coordination to muscles and maintain mobility in the joints. This should help you return to your normal activities without the pain recurring.
Now treatments are less frequent, often every 2-4 weeks. Different exercises and activities are recommended to strengthen weakened areas. Normally your progress is less dramatic through this phase. It is often at this stage that our patients feel better and wonder if there is any more benefit to the treatment. If you continue until the full healing of your muscles and soft-tissues has occurred, a relapse is less likely.
Maintenance Care: Now the aim is to keep the good movement, strength and coordination that you have achieved. Through check-ups every 2-3 months and compliance with the exercises and advice given, any changes in your muscles and joints can be corrected and treated before you start to experience pain and discomfort, also the rehabilitative exercises prescribed can be reassessed and altered to suit your progress. We think prevention is better than cure!
